Mari Andrew’s’ Instagram account could be mistaken for a best friend, a guidance counsellor or a warm hug and a mug of hot chocolate on a cold day. Her hand drawn images are icons of beauty in themselves but more important are the messages behind the print and the paint, which are utterly heartwarming, beautifully relatable and painstakingly raw.
Mari reminds her followers every day to celebrate love and fortitude, and have gratitude for the simple things in life. When considering emotional challenges and heartbreak, she is almost certain to present a perspective that challenges our way of thinking and reveals the commonality of the human experience when it is distilled into simple emotions. It is no wonder that Mari’s page today has over 1.1 million followers who delight in her little life guidebook.
Hands down some of the best, most wholesome content on Instagram. Run by the same person who’s behind the Thoughts of Dog tweets, each day there is a new post to keep you up to speed on this pupper’s latest floofy adventures. No matter how tired you are, or how drab your day has been, these posts always keep it lighthearted and remind us of the joy that we can find in the simple things.
Yiayianextdoor documents an unlikely friendship between a young man, and his #girlnextdoor, an elderly Greek grandmother. Each week, he documents his yiayia (the Greek word for grandmother) sharing her homemade meals with him over their shared fence, and one of the highlights is their #LentilSoupFridays post each week.
Yiayianextdoor is a reminder to all of us that sometimes the best friendships are formed out of hardship, and that we can find love and compassion in the places we least expect. The unlikely bond between this yiayia and her neighbour inspires us to look out for those around us.

If you haven’t heard of her, Greta Thunberg is a 16 year old with Asperger’s. She also happens to be one of the most influential youths in the world right now. At just 15, she began actively protesting outside of the Swedish Parliament for immediate change in the way government’s were addressing environmental issues. At first, people (including her friends and family) rejected her attempts for change. Now, she is backed by thousands and is a prominent climate activist.
Greta’s account might be confronting in her choice of topics, but it is indeed uplifting in that it encourages people to actively seek justice. Greta states “you are never too small to make a difference” and actively demonstrates the “power of one”. She will definitely provide you with some perspective in light of the coming assessment period!

Em Carey was told she would never walk again.
At just 20 years old, Em set off on the European adventure of a lifetime. However, after a horrific skydiving accident in the Swiss Alps, she was left a paraplegic. Despite the overwhelming influence this has had on her life, she chooses to remain positive and uses her instagram account as a journal documenting her thoughts and progress. From her perspective, she is not unlucky in that her life has become increasingly difficult; she is lucky because she was so close to dying and yet lived. Em is also an artist who paints colorful and uplifting art, making her account one you NEED to follow!
So whichever account it is, try this week to brighten up your feed and make the procrastination well worth it!
